| October 2009 Clubs and Homework Clubs
have recommenced with attendance as high as ever. A new Boys Club has
started in Ballyfermot, the first ever Mission Club in that area.
Summer 2009 was an awesome demonstration of God's grace and
empowerment. Week after week of the nine summer samps were very special
with many stories of how God was at work. There was a great lack of the
negative behaviour that we often see at camp. In its place was a sense of
the peace of God pervading the campsite. Volunteers from Dublin were
joined by teams from N. Ireland, Germany, Canada and America. Set up and
take down teams made short work of those practical tasks and the sun even
threatened to shine on several occassions. Youth Bible study, Ballyfermot
Bible study and a monthly meeting for the Markets area will commence in
October as a result.
April 2009 Two new worker, Paddy Browne and Rocheanne Noble, have
started full time service with the Mission. Paddy is now the Youth and Community Worker
for the Ballyfermot area while Rocheanne will head up the work in the Light House.
April 2009 Easter Junior Leader Trip to
Belarus The team of 10 went to work
with young people living in an orphanage, all of whom have speach problems
due to the Chernobyl disaster. We held a week long camp for them in a
rehabilitation centre where they were well fed and had a fantastic time!
It was such a great week that met all of our expectations and more. We're so
delighted with the team and thankful for the purposes and plans that our
loving God carries out! - Read more and see Liesel's video...http://www.lieseli.blogspot.com
17th January
The New Year Dinner for Light House Guests was well attended as
usual. 123 people from 16 different nations joined together to enjoy a
four course meal prepared by a host of volunteers. There were a few tense
moments as two men, worse the wear for alcohol, started to shout and roar
as invited guest speaker, John from the travelling community, started to
share the Word. Calm was quickly restored as most guests were not
appreciative of the interuption.
23rd August A big day as we brought an end to the summer camp season. Nine weeks of
one week camps have passed off with great success. Last year's summer was
the wettest in 254 years. I haven't heard yet but I could easily be
convinced that this year was the wettest in 255 years! In just two hours
we recorded the rainfall for the month of August which wouldn't have been
so bad if that had been the end of thr rain for the rest of August.
Weather aside, summer camp this year was one of the most enjoyable so far.
From the first yehawing team from Amarillo, Texas at the end of June,
right through to the take down team from Randalstown, Co. Antrim, the
craic was mighty and the tray bakes sweet. Hundreds of people have
enjoyed camp for another year and places have been requested for next year
already. Perhaps the highlight of the summer was the participation of so
many of our own junior leaders. In training already for two years this
group of young men and women surpassed hope and expectation. Third
year training will culminate in a Missions trip.
5th April The 180th year celebration of
the Mission took place in Chancery Place. It was a very enjoyable evening
of thanksgiving to the God who continues to work in and through this work.
There was a video presentation of the current wok followed by a PowerPoint
presentation look at 180 years of service to the poor and needy of the
city. It was a special opportunity to celebrate with two long serving
members of our governing body. Gordon Lewis has been a member of Council
for 44 years while Helen Shaw came to help at the Mission April 1968
after getting married to Albert Shaw who was the Superintendent of the
Mission. Helen was presented with a book of memories put together by 40
people whose lives were influenced and impacted by her during the past 40
years. Around 200 people joined together in praise to return our
thanks to God for his faithfulness.
